Hello,

I am about 5 years into my IBR. Currently submitted my annual documentation. My coworkers and i just found out that in our section of our job we can quality for PSLF. I am not even sure where to start? My loans are currently with Navient. I do not know if I need to Consolidate or anything. Studentloans.gov is currently down.
Navient lists my loans as: consolidation, Direct, Stafford unsubsidized and Stafford subsidized.

Would any of these need to be consolidated? Can i consolidate while on IBR? Any input is appreciated!

I would not consolidate now. Consolidating can restart the forgiveness clock and you may already have 5 years done.

Step number one would be to submit an employer certification form… find out where you stand.

The form is located here: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/sites/default/files/public-service-employment-certification-form.pdf … once their downtime is over you will be able to access it.

The results of the employer certification form will have a huge impact on how you proceed from there.

Good luck!

Some of my loans are FFEL, which from what i read do not qualify for PSLF. Do you think I should still send the certification form first?

Thank you!

I would. You will want to know where your other loans stand before you decide which loans to consolidate.

My wife is on the IBR plan and has been in PSLF for four years. Last year is the first year we were married while she was on PSLF. She is doing her annual recertification for IBR and it asks for my info. I have a few questions surrounding this. First, why do they want this info if we file taxes separately (for IBR purposes)? Second, do I need to supply it? It says “unless it is not readily available.” I do not think we provided it last year. However, I do not want to cause any hiccups when they review her file after 120 payments. Should I just submit this stuff even if we file separately?

My last questions: It is telling me I need an account to submit the info. I do not have an account with studentloans.org. It sounds crazy that I would have to create an account to submit this info.

Any advice on this is greatly appreciated!

I’d suggest reaching out to her servicer. They can tell you what is necessary to avoid a hiccup, and you really want to make sure they don’t include your income in their calculations because of how you filed your taxes.

Also, studentloans.org is not the government site for submitting this information. (Studentloans.gov if the correct site) Make sure you and your wife are on the right site.
