Hi there – I’m excited to share stories with a group of like-minded people working hard to escape the shackles of student loans. I’m sure everyone has great stories to tell and I look forward to hearing them. That said, here’s why I deserve the Student Loan Sherpa scholarship!

I finished school a little over a year ago, and am proud to have blasted my loans down from $48k to $22k in that time. I was fortunate enough to get a solid 9-5 shortly after graduating, but don’t exactly have a Wall Street salary, so dropping my loans has involved a lot of work doing freelance gigs and being mindful of fixed costs. It’s like by day I am your average, mild-mannered office worker, and by night I assume my secret identity of… Side Hustle Sally. I may have a day job, but I know better to think that I’m “above” any kind of honest work. I’ve bar-tended, dog sat, conducted mock job interviews, reviewed cosmetic products, flipped items on eBay, done professional resume reviews, taught conversational English, the works! IKEA furniture to assemble? Convention doors need guarding? I’m there. The real trick, though, is that as soon as I get the money from a side project, I immediately log into my loan server’s website and transfer all of my payout towards my loan. This is on top of the regular payments that come from by main job’s salary that automatically get taken out. I know others out there may have larger loans than me, or more mouths to feed at home, but I’m happy to simply be an example of what a normal person can accomplish with the power of determination.

Thanks for joining the conversation Sally! I’m surprised to see that nobody else has left a post here in the forum, but I guess that is good news for you… you’re 20 days away from being $100 richer!

Great job on paying your loans back! I wish more people were more conscience of making monthly payments regularly and understanding why it is important to do so.

Thanks guys! It does seem like persistence and making regular payments is the key to all this, something that I know both of you are already experts at.
