I apologize if I’m posting in the wrong place, I am new to this. My question is, I am currently unemployed due to health reasons. I am not receiving any income because my unemployment ran out. My adult children live with my husband and I, but file taxes separately although we support them mostly financially. Can I included them when filing my paperwork for PAYE? I am putting my husbands income roughly 40,000. If I can’t claim them how much will my payments be for family of two. My loans are with Nelnet.

If you have zero income and you are filing your taxes separately from your husband, whether or not you include your children will not matter… your monthly payment should be $0.

The best way to figure out how much you will have to pay based upon your income and your filing status is to use the federal student loan repayment estimator. This is a tool provided by the department of education that helps you preview what your payment will be. It can be found here: https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/repaymentEstimator.action
