Questions about eligibility
July 12, 2018

I graduated in Dec. 2009. I started my repayment in July 2010. I worked in private sector previously, but have now been employed by a VA hospital since 2011. I believe my employer is eligible, but how do I go about finding out if my loans are eligible? They have been consolidated, bought & sold by many “lender” companies. They are currently with Navient. I understand that I will not be eligible for forgiveness until 2021 (because of my employment status), but I am hoping that my loans and the payments I have already made will also qualify. I am attempting to gather all the necessary paperwork to hopefully make this as easy as possible. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

You need to submit a signed employer certification form (found here: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/sites/default/files/public-service-employment-certification-form.pdf )

Once that form gets submitted, you will get a count on exactly how many months you have towards PSLF. If there is an issue with your loans or your repayment plan, you will learn that as well by sending in the certification form.

Good luck!
