Old Loan

I have been paying loans on and off for since 2002. I have an FFEL consolidation loan and several subsided/unsubsidized Direct Stafford loans. I have several questions on how to proceed with paying off these loans. I am having trouble paying the current minimum payments and want to try a different payment plan. My question is,…what would be the best option and does my road to forgiveness start with the change in repayment plans or does the paymnts I have already made count toward theses payments?

There are lots of variables at play here. Before jumping into specifics, can you answer the following:

What is your current repayment plan?
What form of forgiveness are you working towards?
