Hello, I am a parent and completely overwhelmed. My son has been accepted to AUP. Our credit is not great, mid 600 but our income is high. Fasfa, is not covering much and we are not cash heavy. I understand Fed parent plus Is more forgiving on credit. I didn’t realize the deadline for committing were already here but we don’t have contributions amounts from the school or a loan in place? Also with covid im concerned about the timing on a visa. More importantly is can we come up with a loan in time.

Hello LB. I’m sure the office of financial aid will be able to help you get things squared away in time. You are certainly behind, but you can catch up.

As for the Parent PLUS loan credit check, they are not looking for a certain credit score. Instead, they are looking for an adverse credit history. It is a lower bar than the private loans. You can read more about it here: https://studentaid.gov/sites/d…..credit.pdf

I know right now your concern is getting loans in place and meeting deadlines, but I’d also encourage you to be careful about the debt your family is taking on. This article might help with some of that decision-making: https://studentloansherpa.com/…..-planning/

Best wishes!
